Free Flights for Life for Baby Boy Born on AirAsia Flight

Posted in News  by Laura on October 23rd, 2009

A baby boy who was born on board an AirAsia flight this week, and his mother, will be given free flights for life, say the budget airline.
AirAsia said Liew Siaw Hsia, 31, went into premature labour on the flight from the northern island of Penang to Kuching on Borneo island on Wednesday.
When Liew Siaw Hsia started labour pains the plane made an emergency diversion to the Malaysian capital but not in time for the baby to be born in a hospital, he arrived just before landing.
Thankfully there was a doctor on board the flight who, along with help form the flights attendants, helped to deliver the baby while the plane was at 2,000 feet (600 metres) in the air on its final approach to land.
AirAsia’s director of operations Moses Devanayagam said in a statement, “The baby was safely delivered when flight AK 6506 was approaching Kuala Lumpur for landing at 2,000 feet.
“To celebrate this momentous occasion, we decided to present both mother and child with free flights for life,” said after visiting them in hospital.
Liew was reportedly 27 weeks pregnant, 11 weeks short of the full term, both her and her baby were taken to a nearby hospital after the aircraft landed.

No doubt the birth of Liew Siaw Hsia’s baby son relieved the monotony of the flight for the other passengers!
