Berlin Brothel Offers Discounts for ‘Green’ Clients!

Posted in News  by Laura on October 23rd, 2009

A brothel in Berlin, Germany is offering discounts for ‘going green’.
In a bid to stave off falling demand in the current economic climate, the brothel will give clients a ‘green’ discount if they take public transit or ride a bike when they next use their services.
To qualify for the ‘green’ discount, customers must show the receptionist either a bicycle padlock key, or proof they travelled by public transit to get to the neighborhood.
Prostitution is legal in Germany with approximately 450,000 employees, 10,000 of whom work in Berlin. They have the same legal rights and social benefits as people in other professions.

Regina Goetz, a former prostitute who runs the ‘Maison d’envie’ (House of Desire) brothel in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg, a district in the former East Berlin, said, “Everyone’s a winner.
“It’s very difficult to find parking around here, and this option is better for our environment.
“The environment is a topic on everyone’s lips and it’s pretty difficult to park around here. So we came up with the idea of an ‘eco discount’ of five euros (£4.50) to anyone who leaves the car at home.
“The crisis has slashed our turnover in half in the last year.”

Regina said that introducing the ‘green’ discount has got the business back on track, with 10% of environmentally-conscious punters taking up the offer.
Those punters who walk to the brothel are not eligible for the €5 ‘green’ discount.
Regina said, “We haven’t found a way for people to prove they have walked here.” :o

A discount of €5 may not be much, but for frequent visitors I guess those Euros soon mount up!
